Tarot reading is the practice of divining wisdom and guidance through a specific spread (or layout) of Tarot cards. However, contrary to popular belief, the cards do not simply tell your fortune, and one does not have to be a psychic to give Tarot readings. The cards are meant to provide insight into the innermost truths of your higher self.
In other words, the cards provide an evolved awareness of what you already know deep within. The origin of the Tarot is unknown, but we do have documented references of Tarot card use back to fourteenth century Europe. The Tarot has been used as an oracle, in the basic form we know today, since the beginning of the seventeenth century.
How Is The Tarot Card Reading Done?
Before the tarot card session starts, you will be required to come up with a question that you would like to be interpreted.
For instance, you can ask why you feel that there is a lot of anxiety within you? The question you ask will pave the way for the reader to give you an interpretation. The reader will then shuffle the deck of cards thoroughly and lay them out in what is referred to as a tarot card spread. The reader will use any spread format depending on what interpretation you seek.
One of the popular spread methods is the ten-card spread, commonly known as the Celtic Cross Spread. It is used to give a comprehensive interpretation to answer the question you want to be addressed.
Other types of tarot card spreads include the three spread, five spread, 7-day spread, and 12 months spread. Remember each position of the card has a significant and specific meaning. The three spread is best for giving an interpretation about your past, present, and future based on the question you have asked.
Most people would prefer undertaking in-person tarot card sessions. However, if that is not possible, you can opt for online tarot readings, which are straightforward and have many benefits, including access to many tarot readers, privacy, and convenience.

Reversed cards
Tarot card illustrations are generally a single image in an upright position, unlike common playing cards that display a dual image facing both right-side-up and upside-down. When Tarot cards are collected and shuffled or moved about, they can show up upside-down in a reading. The reversed Tarot card can be interpreted in various ways.
Many believe this simply means the significance of the card is present in your life, but its powers are weakened or blocked by something. Others believe it means you’re unwilling to work with the energy the card signifies. And yet others interpret a reversed Tarot card to mean that the opposite or inverse of that card’s significance is present.
When learning the Tarot, it’s advisable to stick with right-side-up interpretation, simply turning the card around if it falls upside-down, at least in the beginning. Many people omit the potential confusion of reversed cards by turning them all right-side-up and exploring the full spectrum of energy at play, including both shadow and light expressions.
